Therapy for Children & Teens

Helping Young People Build Skills, Confidence, and Resilience

Childhood and adolescence can bring unique emotional, social, and academic challenges. While some struggles are a normal part of growing up, others may begin to interfere with a child’s well-being, relationships, school performance, or daily functioning.

My Approach

Therapy can provide children and teens with a safe, supportive space to understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and learn strategies for managing life’s challenges.

At Bright Path, I believe that mental health treatment is most effective when it is individualized and collaborative. While I specialize in psychiatric evaluation and medication management, I frequently work alongside therapists to ensure children and families receive comprehensive care.

How Therapy Can Help
Therapy can help children and adolescents:

  • Manage anxiety and excessive worry
  • Improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression
  • Develop healthy coping skills
  • Strengthen emotional regulation
  • Improve self-esteem and confidence
  • Navigate peer and social challenges
  • Process life transitions and stressors
  • Improve communication skills
  • Address behavioral concerns
  • Build executive functioning and organizational skills

Therapy and Medication: Working Together

For some children and adolescents, therapy alone may provide significant improvement. For others, a combination of therapy and medication can be the most effective treatment approach.

When medication is appropriate, I work closely with families and therapists to ensure treatment goals remain aligned and communication is maintained whenever possible.

Research consistently shows that combining evidence-based therapy with appropriate psychiatric care can lead to meaningful and lasting improvements for many mental health conditions.

A Collaborative Approach

Children thrive when the important adults in their lives work together.

With parent consent, I may collaborate with:

  • Therapists
  • Pediatricians
  • Primary care providers
  • School counselors
  • Psychologists
  • Other members of the treatment team

This collaborative approach helps ensure consistent support across home, school, and healthcare settings.

When Should You Seek Help?

Consider seeking professional support if your child or teen is:

  • Struggling academically due to emotional or behavioral concerns
  • Frequently anxious, overwhelmed, or withdrawn
  • Experiencing persistent sadness or irritability
  • Having difficulty managing emotions
  • Showing significant changes in behavior
  • Avoiding school or social activities
  • Experiencing challenges that are affecting daily functioning

Early intervention can make a meaningful difference in a child’s emotional health and long-term well-being.

Common Reasons Families Seek Therapy

Anxiety
Children with anxiety may experience excessive worry, perfectionism, panic symptoms, school avoidance, sleep difficulties, or physical symptoms such as headaches and stomachaches.

Depression
Depression in children and teens can appear as sadness, irritability, withdrawal from friends and family, loss of motivation, low self-esteem, or changes in sleep and appetite.

ADHD
Therapy can help children with ADHD develop organization skills, improve emotional regulation, strengthen executive functioning, and address challenges related to self-esteem and academic performance.

Stress & Life Changes
Children and teens often benefit from support when coping with family changes, academic pressures, friendship difficulties, grief, or other significant life events.
