Anxiety Therapy for Children and Teens

Supporting Children and Teens with Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns among children and adolescents. While some worry is a normal part of growing up, excessive anxiety can interfere with school, friendships, family relationships, sleep, and everyday activities.

My Approach

Children and teens with anxiety may experience constant worry, perfectionism, social fears, panic symptoms, separation anxiety, irritability, headaches, stomachaches, or avoidance of situations that feel stressful. Anxiety can sometimes be mistaken for behavioral challenges, academic difficulties, or a lack of confidence.

I provide anxiety treatment for children and teens through comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management when appropriate, and collaboration with families, therapists, and schools. Every treatment plan is tailored to the unique needs of the child and designed to help them develop coping skills, resilience, and confidence.

My approach focuses on helping young people better understand their emotions, reduce anxiety symptoms, and feel more successful at home, in school, and in social settings.

How can I tell if my child’s anxiety is more than just normal worry?

It’s normal for children to worry from time to time. Anxiety may require professional evaluation when worries become frequent, difficult to control, or begin interfering with school, friendships, sleep, or daily activities. Children may also express anxiety through physical symptoms such as stomachaches, headaches, irritability, or avoiding situations they once enjoyed.

What treatments are available for childhood anxiety?

Treatment depends on your child’s individual needs. Many children benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), while others may also benefit from medication when symptoms are moderate to severe. A comprehensive evaluation helps determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

Will my child need medication for anxiety?

Not necessarily. Some children improve with therapy and coping strategies alone, while others benefit from a combination of therapy and medication. Any recommendation for medication is made carefully after discussing the potential benefits, risks, and your family’s goals.
